A Decision Dilemma 1

Romans 13:1-2 (ESV) Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. Acts 5:29 (ESV) 29 But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men. These two scripture passages may be at the top of consideration and contemplation for some today with the election race close at hand.  Maybe, for the first time in the history of our country, for the believer there […]

There is a methodology that hits the bullseye for your church's personality.

Finding A Method that Meets Your Personality 1

The starting point for vision ––for thinking about our church’s future––is not deciding where we want to go or exploring what is working for other churches but understanding how we are unique    – Will Mancini, Church Unique One of the times I remember experiencing a moment of great inspiration was years ago when I attended my first business conference.  There were great speakers and helpful workshops to attend.  They provided me, and some of my peers, with new thoughts, ideas and approaches to business and time management.  I thought to myself, “This is really cool”. Similarly, when attending church and […]

Sheep to Disciples

I have heard it in many church sermons during service.  I have heard it in leadership meetings at churches.  I have heard it from church leaders, stamped with approval by the gathering saints across differing congregations.  I suppose it is a mindset that is in the warp and woof of a continued church culture.  “Sheep beget sheep”. This mindset proves to be the modus operandi in several churches, but what does it mean?  How does it translate into the life of the believer and how they live out the gospel?  The better question aims to determine whether this is what […]

If I Had A Voice

If I had a voice then I would speak.  I do speak, but without a voice only some can hear, and of those that hear fewer will listen.  If I had a voice then I would speak.  I do speak, but without a voice not many can see me.  I pass by them undetected though I am present.          If I had a voice then I would speak.  But in fact I do speak, sometimes at the top of my lungs.  I mean to say, I speak loudly, and in plain sight.  At the top of the hills […]

The Strip Tease

I have heard it said that the oldest profession in the world is prostitution.  I have no point of reference for such a statement and admittedly did not take the time to look into its validity.  What is closer to home is a knowledge of what was formerly known as a, or exotic, dancer.  This is a person whose job is to entertain their audience by sensually “teasing” the imagination of the on lookers through dance while “threatening” to remove select items of clothing.  Today, the striptease has morphed into what is formerly known as a stripper. The striptease dancer is […]

Entertain Meant 1

I remember years ago watching a comedian on Def Comedy Jam named Talent.  He was a pretty popular comedian at the time and was known for his catch phrase “It’s just comedy”.  His intention was to set the stage for jokes that may seem personal but insisted that if it seemed to be about “you” it was “coincidence”.  Don’t take it personally,  “It’s just caaaah-medy.”  He was funny and a good entertainer. We live in a world of entertainment. Entertainment is something that we all enjoy.  Entertainment is a break away from reality.  The word entertain comes from the Old […]

Near Death Experiences

For many years there have been recorded testimonies of people that have had near death experiences.  The narratives of such events are similar when an experience involves the person feeling like they are slipping away into eternity.  Most speak about a bright white light that they walk or somehow move towards. Of course, supernatural near death experiences are not the only ones recorded.  For instance, I know people that have come close to death.  Everyday is a crap shoot.  This is not the euphoric near death experience.  No.  However, those that have had steel pressed against them, or been in […]

My Arms Are Not Long Enough

A father goes outside with his daughter to teach her how to ride a bike. In her eyes he can see her uncertainty. His goal is simple: 1) to assure her that she is capable of conquering the task of learning and mastering how to ride the bike, 2) that he will be with her as she struggles through the learning process. A husband and wife sit and converse about the things in life. The wife opens up to him, disclosing the many things that burden her heart. Some things are practical but there are things are extremely personal. His […]

Clearing the Space Beneath the Bed 8

“Brian, get in this room and clean it up!”  I can still hear the stern encouragement my mother would give me to uphold the duty of having a presentable bedroom as a young boy becoming a man.  After all, by the time I was 7 years old I was the man of the house.  So that was what I would do every 4 or 5 months…I would clean my room.  I’m not sure that my idea of cleaning my room and her idea was the same.  For her, generally, cleaning the room meant making sure that everything was put in […]

An Understanding of Work

My mentor and friend, Mark Eckel, posted an insightful article on how the Christian ought to view work.  A timely article I believe in light of the worship that many believers do when it comes to work and “play”.  “Work is good” and Mark explains why through biblical reference and practical reasoning. I thought this would be a great article to share with my readers.  It is foundational for the believer and follower of Jesus Christ to live a life from the perspective of the Word of God; a biblical worldview.
